Hi there – this kind of query is almost impossible to deal with via youtube – I can get into this kind of thing with clients – your history, how much you have to lose, what could be causing a plateau etc. Give it time – eating less absolutely does NOT work – eating better is the only way to sustained weight loss. Check out face book / theharcombediet for inspiration if you like – loads of people there are down several stone despite having had brief plateaus. Hope this helps!

i purchased both of your books i have several autoimmune conditions and i am very overweight what a breath of fresh air the zoe harcombe diet is . i have recommended it to all of my friends who are at this moment ordering online. my weight loss has been steady 3lbs per week then last week two and this week sadly nothing i have been on the plan for 5 weeks i exercise too (body /medical conditions allowing) however i am very dishearted with this weeks results any ideas/help please!
Hi there – not in the first 5 days – it’s meat/fish/eggs/natural live yoghurt/veg (not potatoes or mushrooms)/salads/ & 50g brown rice per day only in Phase 1!

Just wondering if beans are allowed in phase 1? Such as cannellini, kidney, butter beans etc, without sauce just as they are, as these are a large part of my diet as I eat only poultry and fish.

Hi Brian – this is where you’ll need the book! Milk is OK in Phase 2 – but only if you’re not intolerant to it (the books talks through the 3 conditions causing food cravings and health problems and food intolerance is one of them).
No to diet drinks – the sweetener question is
the #1 asked question of The Harcombe Diet – so it’s on the FAQ page of my web site theharcombediet.
No to processed burgers/food – you need to eat real food, as nature delivers it.

Yes – big time! Caffeine is one of the most powerful ‘addictions’ freely available and headaches are very common during withdrawal. Whatever you normally take for a headache will help and they should ease in a couple more days.

Hey ZoĆ«. This is the best diet I’ve ever heard of! It just makes sense. I’ve been doing it for 3 days now and although I don’t own scales so don’t know if I’ve lost any weight, I feel so much better – and happier! Wheat has been the bane of my life, it gives me cramps, makes me bloated and fat, tired and it makes my hair thin.
Can cutting out caffeine give you withdrawal headaches? As I’ve been having these.
Hi there – the only food that is limited is the brown rice (50g dry weight per day) but meat, fish, eggs, veg ( not potatoes or mushrooms), salads and natural live yoghurt are all unlimited. I do say in the book, don’t go hungry but don’t start training for eating competitions – be sensible!

Hi there – stay on Phase 1 as long as you like – it is the fastest weight loss prog I have come across (Atkins is close and works better for some people – but not veggies!)
You could then try re-introducing dairy (cheese etc) first, but only if you haven’t craved it before – check out all the advice on food intolerance in the book. Only try fruit if Candida & Hypoglycaemia are not issues – the book helps you work out which conditions are problems for you

Hi Zoe, I’m following your diet plan and so far is going well. I have lost 9 pounds in one week. I am 5″9 and was 13.5 stone. Therefore I believe I have around another two and a half -three stone to lose in order to maintain a healthy weight. How long would you recommend continuing phase one of the diet for. I am a veggie so would love to start introducing cheese/fruit into my diet and am looking forward to eating the lovely recipes in the book.Thank you

It is if you understand the principles behind the diet.
It is based on 20 years of obesity research – I found a mass of documentation on 3 very common medical conditions, which cause insatiable food cravings. I designed the perfect diet to overcome these 3 conditions and ended up with the 5 day plan i.e. Phase 1 of The Harcombe Diet.
2 of the 3 conditions cause huge water retention and this will go in 5 days and you will be down 1-2 clothes sizes & feeling healthier than ever.
It’s not safe to lose 14 pounds in 5 days.

I meant fat, yes. I think everyone who says they want to lose weight means they want to lose weight in fat, not water and certainly not muscle. I’m uncertain about the 3500 (calories?) theory but there must be a limit to which our bodies are healthily supposed to take.
Hi there – you mean the max FAT is 3.5 lbs I assume and that’s if you believe the 3500 theory, for which I can still find no evidence whatsoever.
I don’t know what the max WEIGHT you can lose is – I do know that someone on my blog last week lost 17lbs in 5 days and 1 on my facebook page has just lost 16lbs in 5 days! These results stunned me, I must admit, & lots will be water, but we’re 50% water anyway! If you are normally hydrated and weight 16lbs less than last week – that counts! Zoe x
The maximum amount of weight you’re meant to lose in a week is three and a half pounds. Any more than that is going to be water and muscle.
Hi there – I’m so sorry you’ve not been losing on what sounds like a low carb/real food diet.
Have you got much to lose? Are you eating enough?! Do a search for “The Minnesota Starvation experiment” and read about what happened to 36 healthy men who went on a low calorie diet (c. 1500 cals – not that low!) You may have sent your body into starve/store mode.
Just trying to offer some suggestions
