How do anorexics lose body fat?

I am curious.. everyone says that the body slows down after you stop eating and starts storing fat… How is it then that anorexics lose so much body weight (including body fat) then? And whats the difference between fasting for a month and anorexia?

    it does slow down a lot, which is why often when they start eating again they gain a lot of weight very quickly, whcih leads to a lot of complications with treatment.

    the thing is, no matter how much it slows down, if you arent putting much food into your body, you’re body has to burn that fat, even if it wants to reserve it, so they get very very thin.

    fasting for a month essentially is anorexia, jsut without the metal component. anorexics view themselves as fat and obsess over losing the weight, on a fast, its usually for a religious or political reason or something.

    they starve themselves for months, years. and they tend to exercise a lot as well.

    people will be anorexic for a very long time before they get scary skinny.

    by the time you notice it, their bodies will have eaten their fat reserves, and they are currently surviving on their bodies consumption of their muscles and organs.

    they dont eat, it puts there body into “starvation mode” and eventaully it forces the body to start using the body fat to keep alive

    Anorexia is a psychological disorder. Fasting is a behavior. While fasting is often practiced by anorectics, the behavior itself doesn’t actually indicate the problem. Fasting is a symptom of another problem, not a disorder in itself.

    In fact, many religions practice fasting. Though fasting for a month is not advised and could very well kill you.

    As for the fat loss, anorectics often starve themselves into a state called ketosis, a state in metabolism occurring when the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies which can be used by the body for energy. Since they will deny their body food for a long time, they are unable to immediately build the fat back up.

    However, anorectics often gain a large amount of fat and weight when going into recovery. I, myself, gained about fifty pounds. It wasn’t until I allowed my metabolism to recover from all the damage that I could actually lose weight and maintain a health body weight.

    For a while the body does slow down and start storing fat but it can only store for so long until it actually needs the fats and proteins. Anorexia is long term without food so the body has to take the only nutrients it can. The only thing is that even though the body reduces fat it also needs protein and your muscles have tons of protein and that is why there is tons of muscle breakdown. hope that helps. Good luck!
