The Fitted Form of Fitness

What sense does it make to get in shape before you get in shape? What’s the point of trying to get down to a size six before you join a gym? The point of joining is to help you get down to a six — even if you’re starting as a size fourteen. In fact, the point isn’t to get any particular size. Only 20% of women in the world can fit into a size six. You should strive to be your optimal size, and for most women who don’t starve themselves, that’s more like a size ten or twelve. Marilyn Monroe was a size fourteen. Look at your plus size workout clothes and reconsider what fitness and health really mean.
Given the popularity of fitness centers, the opportunities for plus-sized women to participate have never been more pronounced. This is indicative of a real cultural shift in the zeitgeist. Larger, more robust women are no longer some kind of warning sign on the road of weight gain. Instead, they’re becoming more and more a sign of a kind of backlash — think of it as the new healthy. Of course, this new health means being dressed for the workout. And this means getting the right pieces together.
Before you spend a dime on anything, you need to invest in a fitted sports bra. How fitted the bra is depends on your personal level of comfort. Too large a bra and you will certainly find yourself quitting your workout far too early. Or, just as bad, you will be distracted, constantly adjusting and ruining your treadmill or stair climber routine. The right fitting sports bra will keep your breasts compressed, close to your body, without feeling too constricted. This means you will be able to concentrate, sweat, and get fit.
On par with a great sports bra is a great pair of trainers. Known as sneakers or tennis shoes in the States, these poly-carbon wonders will help you keep your feet in good form. This means they will keep your ankle stable while you bend, twist, pivot and step. Have one of those lads or ladies at the athletic store fit you properly. Failure to get fitted will only result in a twisted ankle, knee pain, and lost time. The key to enjoying your plus sized body is enjoying a safe, stable workout routine.
The quintessential top of the pops is everything else you put on. This means the sweats, the hoodie, the spandex and all those very high-priced pieces. While you may be tempted to jump into a baggy pair of sweats, don’t. It may surprise you to know, but tighter fitting clothes will be far more flattering. Though you may have certain body issues (we all do) it is imperative you understand that your shape is one the most appeals facets of your physical presence. While it may not be perfect — whatever that means — it will imbibe you with a sense of confidence and perhaps even inspiration.
