What Are The Associated Cost Of Lap Band Surgery
October 26th, 2011
Individuals looking into the cost of lap band surgery are making a serious decision and should consider the monetary demands of the surgery. Variances on the overall cost will depend on the surgeon, what part of the country you decide to have the surgery, and any cost the arise outside what is quoted.
When comparing surgical charges, make sure you compare like services and charges by the hospital, pre-operation and post operation fees, surgeon charges, and chest x-rays. The services provided should not be based on how much you spend, but if the cost is too low, then chances are the services may be compromised.
There are reasons for people going to other countries to have this surgery, and one such reason is the cost. In the United States, you can pay $15,000-$20,000 where as in Mexico, you may only spend $8,000-$10,000 for the same surgery. Where as pre/ post op consultations, hospital/ doctor fees, and follow up charges are typically included in the overall cost, you must factor in the travel time and expenses when going to another country.
After the doctor has cleared you for the surgery, you still need to pass several test before you are allowed to actually go through the surgery. After going and getting the x-rays, Electrocardiograms, and blood test to mention a few of the test needed, will you then be ready for the surgery. Check to see if these charges are included as they can add up quickly to that $1000 realm.
One of the more important steps of the Lap-Band procedure is the follow up. Follow ups happen several times a year and at least once a year after that to monitor the progress. These follow up cost are typically factored in but for people who pay out of pocket $100-$300 and more if they go to a different surgeon.
Not everyone has the ability to pay for the surgery out right and opt to go through insurance companies. Check to see if the insurance will cover the full cost or even part of the cost as insurance companies screen their patients individually.
